The Sacred and Mysterious Karmanasa
The Karmanasa River, which forms the boundary between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, is shrouded in myth and legend. According to Hindu mythology, the river was created from the sweat of Lord Shiva during his tandava (cosmic dance). The name Karmanasa means "destroyer of karma" - it is believed that a dip in the river can wash away all sins.
The Curse of the River
Local folklore says that the river carries a unique characteristic - it is considered both holy and feared. While taking a dip is believed to cleanse sins, the river is also said to be temperamental during monsoon, and locals speak of spirits that guard its waters.
Temples Along the River
Several ancient temples dot the banks of the Karmanasa in Chandauli district, each with its own story. The Rajdari and Devdari waterfalls add to the mystical beauty of this sacred river.
